What you'll need

Download Trezor Suite® only from the official source: trezor.io/trezor-suite. Never install software from third-party or unverified websites.

Step-by-step setup

1. Download and install Trezor Suite®

Visit the official Trezor Suite® page and choose the desktop app for your operating system, or use the web app at suite.trezor.io. Verify the download signature when available and follow standard OS installation steps.

2. Connect your Trezor device

Use the supplied USB cable to connect your Trezor device to your computer. The device should power on and display a greeting or logo. Trezor Suite® will detect your device automatically and guide you through the onboarding process.

3. Create or recover a wallet

On first use you have two choices:

  • Create a new wallet: The device will generate a new recovery seed (12, 18, or 24 words depending on model and settings). Write the recovery words down exactly as shown on the device display — do not store them digitally.
  • Recover existing wallet: Choose this if you have a recovery seed from a previous device. Enter the words on the device only (not on the computer) when prompted.

Trezor and Trezor Suite® will never ask you to type your recovery seed into a computer or share it online. Keep the seed offline and private. If anyone asks for it, it's a scam.

4. Set a passphrase and device PIN

During setup you'll be asked to choose a device PIN. This PIN protects the device locally and must be entered on the device screen itself. Optionally, enable a passphrase (hidden wallet) for an additional layer of security. Note: passphrases are powerful but also easy to lose — if you forget it, funds are inaccessible.

5. Finish setup and open Trezor Suite®

After creating or restoring a wallet and setting a PIN, Trezor Suite® will sync and list supported cryptocurrencies. You can now view balances, receive crypto, and send transactions with confirmations on your physical Trezor device.

Basic workflows

Receiving funds

  1. Open Trezor Suite® and choose the account for the currency you expect (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
  2. Click Receive. Trezor Suite® will generate a new receiving address for that account.
  3. Always verify the receiving address on your Trezor device screen before sharing it. Confirm the full address (or checksum) to ensure it matches exactly.
  4. Share the address with the sender or paste it into the sending service. Monitor the network confirmations shown in Trezor Suite®.

Sending funds

  1. Open the account and click Send.
  2. Enter the recipient address and the amount. Use the fee slider or advanced options to choose the fee level for the transaction.
  3. Review the transaction details in Trezor Suite® and confirm the transaction total.
  4. Approve the transaction on your Trezor device when prompted by physically confirming the details on the device screen. The transaction will then be broadcast.

For UTXO-based coins like Bitcoin, advanced coin control is available so you can choose which UTXOs to spend to optimize fees or privacy.

Firmware updates & device integrity

Trezor devices receive firmware updates that can add features or patch security issues. Trezor Suite® will check for firmware updates and walk you through the secure installation process. Key points:

If Trezor Suite® warns about an invalid or tampered firmware image, do not proceed. Contact official support for help.

Troubleshooting & recovery

Common issues

ProblemPossible causeQuick fix
Device not detectedFaulty cable, blocked USB port, driver issueTry a different USB cable/port, reinstall drivers, restart computer
App won't open or errorsOutdated Suite version, OS restrictionsDownload latest Suite, check OS permissions
Transaction stuck/unconfirmedLow fee network congestionUse replace-by-fee (if supported) or wait for confirmations; check mempool

Recovering your wallet from seed

  1. Open Trezor Suite® and choose the option to recover a wallet.
  2. Connect a Trezor device and follow the on-screen prompts to enter your recovery words on the device only.
  3. After recovery, allow the Suite to rescan the blockchain to find your accounts and balances.

Recovery words entered on a compromised computer may be at risk. Only enter the seed on the Trezor device itself when prompted, and avoid entering words into any website or app.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is Trezor Suite® free?

Yes. Trezor Suite® is free to download and use. Network fees still apply when sending transactions on public blockchains.

Can I use Trezor Suite® with multiple devices?

Yes. You can connect different Trezor devices to the same Suite installation. Each device manages its own seed and accounts.

Will updating firmware erase my coins?

No — firmware updates do not erase your coins because the private keys are derived from your recovery seed. However, always keep a secure backup of your recovery seed before performing updates.

What if I forget my PIN?

If you forget your PIN, the device must be wiped and the wallet recovered using your recovery seed. This is why safe seed storage is critical.

Closing notes

Using Trezor Suite® with a Trezor hardware wallet is one of the most secure ways for managing cryptocurrency keys because the private keys never leave the physical device. The combination of physical confirmations on-device, a secure recovery seed, and the user-friendly Suite application offers strong protection for on-chain assets. Take time during setup to follow security best practices — a few careful steps now will protect your holdings for years to come.
